IBPSIA Holds Board Officer Elections; Susie Minshew, Alvarado, TX elected President

ARLINGTON, Texas - Susie Minshew, Alvarado, Tex., was elected as the new President of the International Bowling Pro Shop & Instructors Association (IBPSIA) during the association's recent Board of Directors meeting held at IBPSIA headquarters in Arlington, Texas.

Additional officers elected were Richard Shockley, Loganville, Ga (Atlanta area), as Vice President and Warren Friedl of Mokena, Ill. as Secretary-Treasurer.

Previously serving as on IBPSIA's board and most recently as IBPSIA's Vice President, Ms. Minshew is a USBC Gold Level Coach and two-time USA Bowling (now USBC) Coach of the Year, Ms. Minshew's experience on the lanes is not limited to coaching. She has written numerous articles that appear in many popular bowling publications. Along with writing, Strikeability Inc., Minshew's coaching company, has been a direct way to touch the bowling community with her expertise. Susie was also very involved with the development of BPAA's new Coach It Up! Program. She continues to speak and teach coaching and other industry-related seminars and workshops all across the country. Susie is also a member of the Texas Women Bowling Writers Association, award-winning member of the National Women Bowling Writers Association, member of the Bowling Writers Association of America, a regularly-featured columnist in BOWLING THIS MONTH and a regularly featured columnist for Fort Worth (TX) Star-Telegram. Minshew's election secures her place in IBPSIA's brief history as the first woman to hold the position of President.

A USBC Gold certified coach and the National Director of Coaching and Bowler Development for Brunswick Bowling centers and now IBPSIA's Vice President, Shockley worked with other industry leaders - BPAA's Jim Sturm, Bob Rea (a USBC Silver certified coach who also is a lead instructor with Dick Ritger Bowling Camps), pro bowler and USBC Silver certified coach Carolyn Dorin-Ballard and fellow USBC Gold certified coach Susie Minshew - to develop curriculum for the Bowling Proprietors' Association of America's Coach It Up! program. He is a former National Coach of the Year and is recognized as an expert in open play coaching. Few coaches have more bowling knowledge and experience than Atlanta native Richard Shockley, but it's his ability to think like a novice that has led to the success of a nationwide program that encourages open play youth and adult bowlers to bowl more often and maybe even sign up for leagues. Shockley previously served on IBPSIA's Board in a director seat.

With 27 years experience in Center management and bowling store operation, Friedl offers many areas of experience to IBPSIA. In his second stint with the Board of Directors and now as Secretary-Treasurer, Friedl focuses on Communication, and Member Benefits improvements. A Charter and 17 year member of IBPSIA, Friedl offered merchandising and customer service tips in a feature about his business in Bowling Industry Magazine. Writing for Bowlers Journal International and Pro Shop Operator Magazines, he also shared ideas in the Bowling Proprietors Association of America Promotions Guide. In addition to Revolutions-Mokena, a bowling store inside Suburban Chicago's Thunder Bowl, Friedl expanded into center and pro shop consulting, in his 'spare' time.

The following industry professionals round out IBPSIA's current board of directors (in alpha order by last name):
